SSF - Companion Brothers |
Companion BrothersCompanion Brothers are firstly Companions (supporters) who pray for us and support the ministry of the friary in whatever way they can. Companion Brothers come to live with us in the friary for a time to experience community living; to get a sense of our way of being Franciscan and to get to know us. Companion Brothers may be called to live and minister within a community for a period of time as their offering to God. Because each person is an individual and their circumstances vary it is not possible to be too precise about who should consider coming to join the community in this way; but we would expect a degree of robustness of mind, body and spirit. It is not expected that Companion Brothers then go on to join the Society but for men who do want to test their vocation to the religious life this could be a useful experience; using the time to examine themselves and contemplate God’s call on their life, using the community’s rhythm of work and prayer as a base for their own. Before making a commitment it would be expected that someone interested in becoming a Companion Brother comes and visits the community, maybe spends a while in getting to know us and us them.
